–Lady Rams finally reach finals of the NCHSAA 3-A soccer championship
Written on 22 May 2008 by prepalertncMOORESVILLE - The Lady Rams (28-0) looked to continue their winning ways on Wednesday as they went down to Mooresville, a one time small town that has outgrown it’s boundaries by leaps and bounds.
It’s also home to one heck of a soccer program at Lake Norman High School that was ranked 3rd in the NCSCA 3-A rankings this week.
There was a concern that the Lady Rams would meet the same fate as they had the last three years, losing in the semi-finals. But the nation’s #1 ranked girl’s soccer team in the country would have none of that as they defeated the Wildcats, 2-1, putting Roberson in the finals for the first time ever.
In the 30th minute of play, Marissa McCord scored Roberson’s first goal off a throw-in from near the corner and Roberson took that lead into the break at halftime.
They also scored with just 68 seconds gone in the second half as Katherine Ellis became open, put a nifty move on a defender and booted it by the goalie to put the Lady Rams up 2-0.
Lake Norman scored it’s lone goal in the 47th minute as junior Sarah Tang put in only the third goal scored against the Lady Rams all year. She was double-teamed on the left side of the goal and somehow got it past the Roberson goalie, Jennings.
This sets up a battle with #2 ranked White Oak from Jacksonville for the state championship on Saturday.
–Will this be the year for the Roberson girl’s soccer - now #1 in Nation
Written on 21 May 2008 by prepalertncSKYLAND - The Roberson Lady Rams (27-0) soccer team leap-frogged over previous National #1, 5-A Parkview High School in Lilburn, Ga., according to the newly released poll by the National Soccer Coaches Association .
Already firmly entrenched as North Carolina’s #1 3-A team since March 30th, Roberson entered the national poll two days later at #3, moved up to #2 at the end of April and reached the top of the national poll on Tuesday, May 20.
Parkview actually finished their season with a 22-0 record, but the national coach’s poll evidently took the Lady Rams’ 25 shutouts into their consideration to move Roberson to the top of the polls.
The Lady Rams travel to Mooresville (north of Charlotte) to face the Lake Norman Lady Wildcats (24-1-1) at 6:00 tonight in the Regional Finals.
