–Franklin’s new basketball coach resigns after DUI

29 May 2008

FRANKLIN - Newly hired Franklin boys basketball coach Robert Browning resigned Wednesday afternoon after being arrested for driving under the influence in the early morning.

He also resigned his teaching position.

Browning was caught driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.17 (0.08 in the limit in North Carolina) and he also failed five sobriety tests when arrested.

He served as an assistant coach before replacing Doug Plemmons, also the athletic director at Franklin, as head coach on April 7.

School administrators are planning to meet on Thursday to put a plan together to hire a coach and also to talk to the players.

Browning was in his first year at Franklin after winning the 2007 Eastern Plains Conference Coach of the Year at Greene Central High School (2-A) in Snow Hill, near Greenville, NC.
