–Charlie Adams from NCHSAA releases statement on Friday night college football TV

2 May 2008

CHAPEL HILL After receiving several inquiries about some recent developments relative to universities playing televised football games on Friday night, Charlie Adams, executive director of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association, has issued the following statement:

"There has been no change in the position of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association and its concern about televising college football games on Friday night. We do not support any college or university televising a football game in the traditional Friday night high school football slot.

However, in the situation with the recently announced Appalachian State-Wofford game for Halloween night on ESPN2, we are appreciative of the fact that Appalachian State informed us early enough that there is plenty of time to let member schools know. That way our schools can make adjustments or move games as they see fit."

But we want to emphasize that we hope that this is not the beginning of a consistent pattern of games being played and televised in North Carolina on the primary night that high school teams play, because we believe that could really damage our programs."
