–Christ School gets double overtime win over Riverside High School in lacrosse
19 April 2008ARDEN - April 15, 2008 - The Christ School lacrosse team ran their record to 6-3 as Jarred Lehr scored his third goal of game halfway through the second overtime to beat Durham’s Riverside High, 6-5.
Riverside came out on fire and held a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Eight seconds into the second quarter senior Max Snider won the face-off and scored the second goal of the game for the Greenies.
Christ School battled for the rest of the quarter but were still down 4-3 at halftime.
Chris Thompson scored in the third quarter to tie the game at 4 a piece. Then, with just over three minutes to go in fourth quarter senior Clay Maxwell scored the go ahead goal assisted from Hal Swanson to take a 5-4 lead.
Riverside answered right back to tie the score at 5 to force overtime.
The Greenies took nine shots in the two overtime periods before Lehr scored the game winner.
The defense of Sam Redmond, Billy Newton, Stokes Volatile, Cole Jones, and Brien Peterkin made the difference in the game holding their offense who averages 13 goals per game to just five.
In addition to Lehr’s three goals he also led the team in groundballs with 14. Sophomore sensation Brad Dunn played another solid game in the goal recording 13 saves.
Christ School’s next game is at in state rival Forsyth Country Day on April 25 at 6:00.
