–2009 conference realignments are about set

RALEIGH - February 11, 2007 - In the initial realignment of the NCHSAA’s 2009-2013 conferences in early December, both 2-A North Henderson from the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) and 2-A Owen from the Western Highlands Conference (WHC), switched conferences.

This could have possibly taken away some of the best rivalries in Western North Carolina, namely North’s games with West Henderson and East Henderson, both of whom will be in the 3-A classification.  Owen, on the other hand, could have possibly missed games with both Polk and Mitchell.

In the latest realignment scenario, both teams have been returned to their original conferences, assuring that the rivalies will continue.

The conference realignment will be finalized on March 8.
