–Former Erwin & App State lineman to have jersey retired
31 January 2008LEICESTER - January 30, 2008 - Erwin High School will be retiring the jersey (#50) of former Warrior, John Holt, who was a three year starter on the line for the football team. He graduated in 2003, leaving school early to enter Appalachian State in January 2004, where he received a full ride to play football.
He will be recognized for his outstanding play at Erwin and for his collegiate accomplishments at Appalachian State University as well as being named to the TSN’s All-American Team for the 2007 season between the varsity girl’s and boy’s games on Friday night (Feb. 1).
Holt was a stalwart on the offensive line during the past three years for the Mountaineers, who won three straight NCAA Division I FCS (formerly Division II) Championships.
This will be the third jersey retired at Erwin. Past recipients of this honor include Loyd King in boy’s basketball (Virginia Tech, ABA, and professional player in Europe) and Connie Rogers in girl’s basketball (NC State).
Erwin High School is proud to honor John Holt and to retire his #50 football number.
Erwin High School will also be recognizing our Varsity Cheerleading team for its 6th consecutive 3A State Championship that it won on Saturday in Winston-Salem. We will recognize the cheerleading team and present the state championship trophy to the team at halftime of the varsity girl’s game.
It will also be Basketball Homecoming on Friday. The 2008 Basketball Homecoming Court will be presented at halftime of the boy’s basketball game.
