–Brooke Robinson: Tusculum feels like home to me
15 November 2007LEICESTER - November 14, 2007 - On the first day that high school athletes can sign their letter of intent, Erwin’s Brooke Robinson exchanged her red uniform for an orange one. With family and teammates around her, she signed to play for the Tusculum College Pioneers, a Division II school, located just outside of Greenville, TN.
"Tusculum feels like home to me," said the senior Robinson, doning an orange and black Pioneer ball cap. "Coach Gillum and Coach Lynch have been working with me and they have taught me a lot already. I’m looking forward to playing close to home."
Home means a lot to her and she loves living in Leicester.
"I would like to thank the community for their support throughtout my career at Erwin," added Robinson. "This is a tight knit community where everybody knows everybody. It’s a great place to live."
Tusculum plays in the South Atlantic Conference and Robinson will be playing close to home in 2008 & 2009. The SAC includes Brevard, Carson Newman (Jefferson City, TN), Catawba College (Salisbury), Lincoln Memorial University (TN), Lenoir Rhyne (Hickory), Mars Hill, Newberry (SC), and Wingate.
Robinson said that the class schedule is one of the things she liked about the school.
"We take one class for 3-1/2 weeks," said Robinson. "then we take the final, take four days off and start another class. We’re only in class three hours a day."
The Pioneers are playing in several tournaments next fall with one of them being a tournament at UT, with a chance to play the Lady Volunteers.
Robinson’s coach, Barry Lance was on hand also.
"We’re real proud of Brooke’s accomplishment," said Lance. "She is a dedicated hard worker who gives it her all everytime she’s on the field. One of the best things that I can say is that she has the desire to play the game. She is looking forward to playing in college."
On hand to see her sign were her parents, Scott and Sonya, along with both sets of grandparents, Bill and Lynn Robinson and Roger and Esta King.
