–Filipek named as ACA’s new baseball coach
14 November 2007SWANNANOA - November 13, 2007 - Former WCU Associate Head Baseball coach, Eric Filipek, has been hired as Head Baseball Coach for Asheville Christian Academy. Coach Filipek, a UNCA graduate, takes the helm of the ACA baseball program immediately.
He replaces former coach, Matt Kutt, who left the school last year to coach at a college in the Northeast.
Filipek spent four seasons with WCU as head baseball assistant and recruiting coordinator. Four of his recruits were MLB draftees this past spring.
Before his WCU assignment, Coach Filipek was an assistant baseball coach at Coastal Carolina University, Duke University and UNCA. As a player at UNCA, Filipek was selected All Big South catcher for two seasons, was team captain and finished his collegiate playing career as a .324 hitter.
Coach Filipek will be leading ACA’s varsity baseball team this spring in defending their conference crown. The Lions have dominated the CAA as conference champs for five years, as well as compiling regular NCISAA post-season finishes.
“We are extremely pleased to announce that Eric Filipek has joined the Asheville Christian Academy athletic staff as head baseball coach. He has a proven history at the NCAA D-1 level as an excellent teacher of the game, good communicator and motivator of young athletes. ACA baseball will continue to grow and compete at a championship level under Coach Filipek’s leadership.” Joe Johnson, ACA Director of Athletics.
