–Cedrick Allen’s three touchdowns lead #14 Bearcats to upset over #3 Polk

11 November 2007

COLUMBUS - November 9, 2007 - When the final second ticked off the clock in Columbus on Friday night, on the home side of the field, they was a stunned silent crowd, but the roar from the visitors side of the stadium could be heard as far away as downtown Hendersonville.  The Bearcats had finally beaten Polk County, 20-14, one week after Polk had beaten the Bearcats, 21-14, in the last regular season game.

It was almost dejavu, as the scores happened the same way as last week, but this time it switched teams.  The only exception is that the Bearcats didn’t convert their last extra point.  Last week Hendersonville held a 7-0 lead after scoring in the first quarter (this week it was Polk).  In the third, last week both teams scored seven points (same this week) and in the 4th last week, Polk scored 14 to take the win (Bearcats scored 13 to take win this week).

Cedric Allen scored three times for the Bearcats from 82, 5 and 13 yards (185 total on 13 carries) to lead the way offensively, but it was the defense that was the story.

The defense has done an about face the past two weeks.  After giving up over 30 points per game in the three games before last weeks game with Polk, the Bearcats have averaged 17.5 the last two weeks.

Led by middle linebacker Domonique Whiteside, who was in on 12 tackles and Brad Wooten, who had 9 tackles, Polk heralded offense only managed 233 total yards (366 last week) holding Derrick Overholt to 125 yards through the air (249 last week).  He completed just 8 of 26 passes (16/33 last week).

Hendersonville also stopped Polk three times in the red zone.

One glaring statistic that stands out is the number of lost fumbles the Bearcats have had the last two weeks.  After giving up the ball in every game during the regular season before last weeks game, Hendersonville hasn’t lost one in two weeks.

#14 Hendersonville (7-5) travels to Mt. Gilead, about 45 minutes east of Charlotte to play #6 West Montgomery (10-2)
