–Red Raiders punch ticket for second round with win over Kings Mt

BELMONT - November 9, 2007 - The South Point Red Raiders of Belmont climbed all over the Mountaineers of Kings Mountain in the first round of the state 3AA playoffs with a convincing 55-20 victory. Raiders QB Desmond Lowery accounted for five touchdowns, scoring on runs of 15, 39, 17, and 79 yards. He also tossed a 55 yard touchdown pass to Chris Lane to close out the first half giving the homestanding Raiders a commanding 41-7 lead.
The visiting Mountaineers managed to take an early 7-0 lead when QB Michael Roberts scored on a 16 yard run at the end of a 77 yard drive on the opening possesson. Roberts was also the leading rusher for Kings Mountain gaining 140 yards on 22 carries. However, his efforts were completely overshadowed by his conterpart as Lowery gained 245 yards on just 12 carries.
The Raiders offense totaled 555 yards with 500 of them coming from a ground attack that the Mountaineers simply could not contain. Aaron Crumbley, Stan Wilson and Chris Lane also added touchdowns on runs of 53, 28, and 26 yards respectively.
The Mountaineers offense totaled 249 yards with 145 rushing yards on 38 attempts and 104 passing yards on 7 completions in 20 attempts.
The South Point starters sat out most of the second half with a 55-7 lead and in the fourth quarter the Mountaineers were able to score twice. Roberts scored on a 3 yard run and on the last play of the game he tossed a 36 yard touchdown pass to Terrence Young to account for the 55-20 final score.
South Point will be at home next week against #10 seed Northwest Cabarrus which advanced with a 51-22 upset win over #7 seed Burns.
