–Owen boys grab 3rd 2-A state championship in last four years

WINSTON-SALEM - November 3, 2007 - Will Canon finished 6th overall in leading Owen to the 2-A X-Country Championship, their third in the last four years and the first for new coach, John Cline, who replaced Janet Pung after she retired last year.  Owen (56) beat runner-up West Henderson (76) by 20 points for the win.  Along with Canon (16:56), the other Warhorses who scored points were Chris Patino (8th) coming in at 17:00, Robert Dobbs (16th) with a 17:17, Cody Neville (29th) with a 17:31, and Alex Kraak (30th) with a 17:35.

Madison’s Josey Weaver was the medalist, winning with a time of 16:19 after leading from the start.  It was Madison’s first state championship.

In placing second, West Henderson’s top runners were Alex Cremer (17:15), Dylan Ellison (17:19), Spencer Sharrits (17:20), Nick Castellucci (17:26)
and Matt Theilke (17:50).

Brevard was 11th in the team competition with 259 points.
