–Watauga takes Northwestern X-Country Championship, Reynold’s 4th

MORGANTON - October 18, 2007 - Watauga took five of the top eight spots, with a score of 27, in the Northwestern Conference X-Country Championship and seems to be in good position to make a run at the 4-A State Championship.  Led by three seniors and two juniors, who were within 9 seconds of each other, the Mountaineers easily defeated runner-up South Caldwell, who had 74 points.  Freedom, the host of the Championship, was third, East Burke was fourth, Reynolds fifth and Alexander Central was sixth.

Seniors Jay Weaver (16:48) was 3rd, Ben Volmer (16:49) was 4th and Jordan Trivette (16:52) was 7th.  The two juniors were Will Barbour (16:52) who was 5th and Wesley Templeton (16:57) who crossed the finish line 8th.

Colton Rodriquez (16:27) from Freedom was the medalist and Ben Canipe from East Burke (16:44) was second.  Freedom’s Daniel Francis (16:51) came in 6th, teammate James Cagle (16:58) was 9th and South Caldwell’s Aaron Bentley (17:14) rounded out the top 10.

Ben Shields (18:26) led the way for Reynolds, coming in 22nd, Max Bergstrom (18:33) was 24th, Steven Boehm (18:57) was 36th, Ian Layne (19:00) was 38th and Seth Bishop (19:20) was 42nd to give the Rockets a 5th place finish.
