–Asheville puts a whoopin’ on Freedom
11 October 2007MORGANTON - October 10, 2007 - The Lady Cougars of Asheville increased their season record to 17-2 on Wednesday by defeating Freedom in a conference field hockey match, 8-0. Catherine Looper scored two goals in the first half and Kelly Olesiuk scored one goal and assisted on two others to lead the way as Asheville scored 4 goals in each half.
In all, seven different players scored during the game.
The Lady Cougars took an insane number of shots on goal, 42, and had 20 corners. Freedom had no shots on goal.
Eleven minutes into the game, Catherine Looper scored the first goal with an assist from Kelly Olesiuk and two minutes later Sarah Scanzoni clubbed one in after getting a pass from Karla Weis, giving Asheville a 2-0 lead.
Two unassisted goals were scored before the half ended. Olesiuk got her goal with 15:45 left and Looper whacked her’s past the goalie with 11:08 left to give Asheville a 4-0 halftime lead.
It was more of the same in the second half as the Lady Cougars scored all four goals in the last 16 minutes.
Mallory Silver took a pass from Carly Baggett with 16 minutes left and put it past the goalie. Baggett got a goal also two and a half minutes later with an assist from Elizabeth Gaston.
Ten minutes later, at 3:22, Olesiuk got her second assist, passing the ball to Leah Downey and with 1:00 left, Caity Heath scored with an assist from Elizabeth Keil, to round out the scoring, 8-0.
Asheville’s next game is Tuesday at home against Carolina Day, with a 5:00 start.
