–Rockets blast Patriots in conference brawl
6 October 2007By Terry Duckworth My next question was, “What will the score be?” Zack Misler said, “28-10. Darius Spencer will have 3 touchdowns” I thought to myself, only time will tell. Reynolds came into the contest with a record of 4-2. The Patriots of Freedom enter the game with a record of 1-4. One of the intangibles in the game was “homecoming” at AC Reynolds! Reynolds kicked off to the Patriots who were in the road white with red and on the first play of the game, the Patriots fumbled which was recovered by the Rockets. On the second play of the series Darrius Spencer ran a 14 yard touchdown, or so it seemed. The Rockets were called for holding, and just like last week, a touchdown was called back and 6 points were taken off the board. Five plays later the Rockets turned the ball back to the Patriots as they could not complete a pass for a Rocket first down. Freedom punted and the Rockets began their second series of plays on the Rocket 45 yard line, but were forced to punt. Freedom was unable to move the ball against a stingy Rocket defense led by the Cabral brothers, Tony and Rudy. The Rockets third possession began on their own 35 yard line. Paul Wright, the Rocket quarterback, began a drive mixing the The Patriots began their next series on their own 18 yard line. Once again the Patriots ran three plays and had to punt, but they caught a lucky break when the ball hit the Rockets’ Jeremy Philson and was recovered by the Patriots on their 45 yard line. Once again the Patriots were in business with a Rocket blunder, the Reynolds’ defense stiffened and the Patriots were unable to move the ball. After the punt, the Rockets were on their own 10 yard line. Lightning struck on the first play of the series when Darrius Spencer broke a 90 yard dash that was not flagged this time and the score was 13-0 in a matter of 12 seconds. Darri added the extra point and the score was 14-0 with 10:01 left in the second quarter. Reynolds began on the Rocket 19 yard line with hopes of yet another score after the Patriots couldn’t move. On the third play of the series Wright hit Tony Cabral with a 30 yard pass that put the ball on the Patriot 47 Yard line. Eight plays later, Wright once again hit Cabral on a 16 yard flare pass that ended up on the 1 yard line. Kyren Gibson pushed his way into the end zone for yet another Rockets’ touchdown two plays later. Darri added the point after and the score was 21-0 with 2:19 left in the second. Freedom received the ball on their own 12. On the first play from scrimmage quarterback Luke Howard threw an errant pass that was intercepted by Jonathan Marvels on the Patriot 24 yard line. Five plays later Edward Darri kicked a 24 yard field goal making the score 24-0 as the two teams took a break at halftime. The two teams traded punts on the first four possessions of the second half and there would have been a fifth straight, but when they lined up for the punt, the football was snapped out of the end zone resulting in a safety for the Patriots making the score 24-2. After the kickoff, the Patriots had their best starting position in the game on the Rocket 46 yard line. The Rocket secondary toughened and the ball was intercepted by Tyler McEntire on a long pass attempt by Howard. The Rockets began yet another series on their own 16 yard line. At the beginning of the fourth quarter the Rockets had the ball on their own 45 yard line with Wright passing the football in an impressive manner. The Rockets fell short of a first down on the eight play for Reynolds. The punt was blocked and the Patriots began on the Rocket 35 yard line. Once again, both defenses held and each team punted once. On their next possession, Two plays later the Patriots Devin Villanueva intercepted a Wright pass and returned it for a Freedom touchdown. Collin Taylor added the extra point and the score had closed to 24-9. After the kickoff the Rockets began on their own 32 yard line. It did not take but 4 plays for the Rockets Darrius Spencer to take the ball “to the house” on a 55 yard run. After the extra point was blocked the score was 30-9 with 6:43 left in the game. The Patriots began on their own 41 yard line after the kickoff. The Patriots never gave up, and began an impressive drive. With heart and determination Freedom moved the ball methodically down the field. On fourth down, with the ball on the six yard line, the Rockets defensive line decided to take control by sacking Howard on the thirteen yard line. With 1:05 left in the game Reynolds would punt for the last time. However, once again an errant snap resulted in the second safety for the Patriots! With the score now 30-11, the Patriots ran three plays later the game would end. Another ROCKET VICTORY! “Hmmmmmm, three touchdowns for Spencer.” The final score 30-11. Spencer got three touchdowns. You’re good Zack Misler, you’re good. The Rockets will play their last regular season home game next week against McDowell at RL Dalton Stadium, beginning at 7:30 PM.

REYNOLDS - October 5, 007 - As I arrived at RL Dalton Stadium on Friday night the aroma of a barbeque grill greeted me and the smell of hot dogs and was heavy in the air. As I wandered over to the AC Reynolds “gaters” I inquired who was going to win the contest between the Rockets of AC Reynolds and the Patriots of Freedom High. With little or no thought the whole crowd said, “Are you kidding? AC REYNOLDS!”
pass and the run, which ended in a 13 yard pass to Rudy Cabral for a Rocket touchdown. Edward Darri added the extra point and the score was 7-0, AC Reynolds.
