–Roberson boys win first ever ATC Fall Classic at Carrier Park

ASHEVILLE - September 27, 2007 - Since Steve Carpenter took over the boys cross-country team at Asheville, they won just about everything at least once. You can add the Asheville Track Club championship to that mix now as the Cougars made it a clean sweep at the meet, as the Lady Cougars also won their event. Roberson, who had 33 points beat their closest competitor, Brevard (56) by 23 points, had their top five runners in the top 10 of the meet.
Roberson’s Brad Cookson (17:21) won for the first time in his career, beating Brevard’s Luke Anton (17:35) by over 14 seconds.
"I felt great the whole race," said Cookson. "and knew I had a good chance to win today. It was neck and neck for most of the race. I went out strong and stayed up front. At about the two mile mark, I broke away and the other guys couldn’t keep up."
Luke Anton finished second for the third time this year. 
"I got boxed in at the start of the race," said Anton. "but I finally got out of the pack and passed a lot of guys. At the end, I outkicked two or three guys. I even passed my best friend (Brevard’s John Guice, who ran up front with Cookson for the first two miles). I didn’t feel good until I got away from everybody at the start of the race."
Along with Roberson and Brevard, Hendersonville (110), North Buncombe (126) and Mt Heritage (163) rounded out the top five in the field of 12.
Nic Carswell (17:36) from North Buncombe was third, Brevard’s Guice (17:37) was fourth and Sho Kitamura (17:39) was fifth.
