–Falcons’ Josh Moore commmits to Navy
25 September 2007MILLS RIVER - September 25, 2007 - West Henderson’s Josh Moore has commited to the Naval Academy to play baseball. After visiting the campus this past weekend, he decided that the Navy was for him.
He will join 2007 Roberson graduate, Jonathan Wright, who signed earlier this year and is currently playing at the Academy. Moore talked to Wright about the Academy as well as former West Henderson volleyball player, Jessie Sims who also attends the school and both of them helped him to make the decision to attend. "A week ago, the Navy coach saw me play," said Moore. "and asked me to come up this past weekend on an official visit. I hung out with guys in the dorm and got to see an intersquad game and even a football game. The whole trip was great. Then they made me an offer and I excepted. I’m looking forward to spending four years there."
Going to the Naval Academy is an honor that is not to be taken lightly. After the four years of college and the mandatory five years of service, you are just about guarenteed a six figure income when you leave the Navy.
"It’s a tremendous opportunity for a great education," said West Henderson’s head coach Jim Hyatt. "If there is anyone that I have coached that can handle the rigors of the academy, it is Josh. It’s a perfect fit for him. It’s a tough four years, but he can handle it."
Moore knows that the opportunity to play ball is minor compared to the educational benefits.
"I’m looking at the big picture," added Moore. "It’s engineering program is in the Top Five in the country. Education will be a top priority for me."
According to Hyatt, Moore batted .398, with 24 RBI’s, two home runs, 8 doubles .459 on base percentage and .557 slugging percentage.
