KINGS MOUNTAIN – August 31, 2007 - The South Point Red Raiders of Belmont, N.C. invaded John Gamble Stadium, home of the Kings Mountain Mountaineers on Friday night and overwhelmed their host by a score of 53-3. The Mountaineers elected to receive the kickoff after winning the opening toss. After a quick three and out the Raiders were able to take possession at midfield after a short Mountaineer punt.

Five plays later, Raider QB Desmond Lowery finished off the opening drive with an 18-yard touchdown run just over three minutes into the game. Kicker James Justice added his first of four PAT’s to give the visitors a 7-0 lead.

The Mountaineers fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Daniel Holmes jumped on the loose ball for the Raiders at the Kings Mountain 15. Taking advantage of the short field, QB Desmond Lowery covered the 15 yards and notched his second of three touchdowns of the first play following the turnover. Less than four minutes into the game the Raiders led 13-0 after a missed extra point.

The Mountaineers next possession ended in disaster for the home team when South Point defender Jessie McGaha picked off a pass from Mountie QB Michael Roberts that was intended for Ricky Greene in the left flat. McGaha dashed 35 yards down the right side untouched for a third South Point touchdown. The extra point attempt failed again but the Raiders had jumped out to a 19-0 lead mainly on the strength of their defense.

The lone bright spot for the Mountaineers came in the second quarter when kicker Alex Randall split the uprights with an 18-yard field goal cutting the lead to 19-3.

The Red Raider offense was tuned up to run at maximum efficiency and before the half ended, QB Desmond Lowery added another TD on a 35-yard run and fullback Aaron Crumbley, playing his first year of varsity football, notched his first touchdown this season on a 16-yard run.

South Point running back Jessie McGaha added two additional touchdowns in the third quarter on runs of 5 and 6 yards.
The Mountaineers never forced the Raiders into a punting situation however they did were able to force two fumbles.

The Raiders rolled up 490 yards of total offense with every inch coming from the ground game while Kings Mountain managed 213 total yards.

QB Lowery benefited the most on this night with 164 yards on 9 carries. FB Crumbley gained 96 yards on ten carries and Chris Lane added 66 yards on four runs.

With the outcome of the game certain the reserve players of both teams finished out the fourth quarter.

South Point reserve QB Josh Justice provided a nice surprise for the Raider fans when he broke free down the left sideline for a 69-yard dash to the end-zone that rounded out the final 53-3 score.

The Raiders will host Alexander Central next Friday and Kings Mountain will be on the road as they visit Forestview.
