–Roberson girls win 2007 WNC XC Carnival Championship/Open

HENDERSONVILLE - August 25, 2007 - The Roberson girls cross country team won two of the three events in the 7th WNC XC Carnival held at Jackson Park in Hendersonville on Saturday.  The Lady Rams won the Championship and the Open and finished 7th in the Invite.  434 girls competed in the Carnival and included teams from North and South Carolina. The Carnival was divided into six different races, three each for the girls and the boys, the Championship, the Invite and the Open.

In the team Championship run, Roberson had 66 points to outdistance runner-up Chapel Hill, who had 86.  Roberson’s top six runners were in the top 25.  Other WNC teams included Asheville-5th (163), Watauga-9th (270), West Henderson-14th (352) and Polk-16th (434).

In the top 25 for individuals, Roberson’s Caroline Kirby finished 2nd (19:19.10), behind event winner Heather Beichner from Chapel Hill (19:05.82).  Others included Cara Hayes-Asheville (3), Tori Jones-Madison (8), Kylie Smith-Roberson (11), Kelsey Hanger-Asheville (15), Stephanie Chapman-Roberson (18), Zoe Dubin-Roberson (19), Laura Hoer-Roberson (20) and Marie Mauhar-Roberson (25).

In the team Invite run, Sara Willingham, from North Henderson, had the 3rd fastest time of the entire Carnival for the girls, posting a time of 19:25.61, easily out running 2nd place finisher, Freedom’s Terra Jackson (20:37.98). 

Forsyth Country Day won the team competition with 58 points, while Charlotte Latin came in second.  Roberson led the WNC contention with a 7th place finish (243).  Others from WNC include Hendersonville-9th (304), Murphy-10th (317), Owen-11th (334), Franklin-14th (379), North Buncombe-15th (403), North Henderson-18th (478), ACA-19th (491), Watauga-20th (492), East Henderson-22nd (541), Brevard-23rd (550), and Swain-24th (599).

In the top 25 for WNC runners were Kayla Patterson-Murphy (8), Heidi Waldbart-East Henderson (16), Kristen Stout-Hendersonville (17), and Whitney Thornburg-ACA (22).

In the team Open run, Roberson more than doubled the number of points of second place Forsyth Country Day from Winston-Salem, 48-109.

Others from WNC include Owen-4th (117), Hendersonville-5th (136), Madison-11th (266) and Watauga-12th (278).

Enka’s Dana McAfoos won the Open with a run of 22:20.87.  Others included Emily Powell-RS Central (3), Lacey Bradley-Roberson (4), Taylor Wood-Franklin (5), Kayla Doney-Madison (9), Sydney Lierz (10), Ana Reyes-Hendersonville (11), Rachel Patino-Owen (13), Brianna Field-Franklin (14), Madison McGlohon-Roberson (15), Jessica Freeman-Roberson (17), Caitlin Williamson-Roberson (19), Meghan Bailey-Owen (20), Vanessa Wood-Roberson (22), and Laurel Greenspan-Owen (23).
