–Owen boys take second place in WNC XC Carnival Championship

HENDERSONVILLE - August 25, 2007 - Nearly 550 male runners from as far away as Raleigh and Anderson, SC participated in the seventh WNC XCtry Carnival at Jackson Park in Hendersonville.  It was divided into six different races, three each for the girls and the boys, the Championship, the Invite and the Open.

Hickory’s Ryan Hill came in first in the Championship, shattering the meet record as well as the Jackson Park record, with a run of 15:18.27, 11.53 seconds faster than Jack Bolas from Chapel Hill who got the record in 2003 (15:29.8).  Taylor Gilland of Chapel Hill (2nd) also broke the record by 2-1/2 seconds (15:27.33).

 

In the team Championship, Owen came in second with 113 points, behind Mooresville, who ran away with the team championship with 50 points.  Mooresville’s top five runners had the least number of points with 2, 4, 7, 12 and 25 respectively. 

Owen’s top five runners placed 12th, 18th, 26th, 33rd, and 43rd.

Asheville was fifth (146), Watauga was sixth (167), and West Henderson rounded out the top 10 with 267 points.  Roberson was 12th (292), Brevard was 15th (359) and South Caldwell finished 16th (420).

Individual runners from WNC schools in the top 25 include Josey Weaver-Madison (4), John Harwell-Asheville (5), Issac Presson-Asheville (6), Davis Graham-Carolina Day (10), Chris Patino-Owen (12), Ben Vollmer-Watauga (16), Dakota Norris-Mitchell (17), Cody Neville-Owen (18), and Luke Anton-Brevard (24).

In the Invite, Chapel Hill won with 83 points, with Owen 7th (286), Murphy was 8th (291), Watauga was 11th (388), ACA was 13th (388), Hendersonville was 14th (391), Asheville was 15th (406), Roberson was 16th (425), Polk was 17th (440), North Henderson was 24th (620), North Buncombe was 26th (637), Carolina Day was 27th (657), Erwin was 31st (794), East Henderson was 32nd (803), West Henderson was 34th (857) and Franklin was 35th (919).

Individually, local runners in the top 25 are RS Central’s Zeb King (7), Polk’s Noah Hall (9), Carolina Day’s Will Jordan (15), Swain’s Jonathon Mattox (16), North Buncombe’s Nic Carswell (18), Hendersonville’s Brian Edwards (19), ACA’s Zach Barnett (22), and RS Central’s Kevin Dinga (25). 

In the Open, Roberson and Providence Day tied for 1st with 73 points, but Providence won on a tiebreaker (23-25).  Watauga was 4th (100), Asheville was 8th (253), Owen was 10th (305), Erwin was 16th (439), Hendersonville was 18th (473) and North Buncombe was 19th (495).
